Families in Muncie will soon have a closer option for detox and dual diagnosis treatment, the integrated care that addresses substance use and mental health conditions together. Indiana Treatment Centers is opening a new facility to service residents in Central Indiana that combines medical detox, residential treatment, and co-occurring mental health care under one roof.

Indiana already has a large selection of inpatient and outpatient programs that assist residents from all backgrounds. Nevertheless, many vulnerable people continue to fall through the cracks, and this new center on S. Tillotson Ave. expands access to substance use disorder and mental health treatment for individuals and families in Delaware County and surrounding communities.

Closing a Local Treatment Gap

For years, many people in the region traveled outside their community for care. The new location is meant to strengthen the local continuum of care and keep treatment close to home.

Delaware County Chief Probation Officer Jeffrey Hansard has waited for the new inpatient treatment center and its services for a long time. Hansard noted Muncie residents faced high rates of overdoses connected to substance use disorders while lacking enough local treatment options for those wanting help.

Comprehensive Behavioral Health Under One Roof

Indiana Treatment Centers Muncie provides medical detox and residential treatment built around individualized treatment planning and clinical supervision. The program supports people with substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health concerns in a structured setting focused on stabilization and long-term recovery.

The facility came from a collaboration between Indiana Treatment Centers, the Ascension Recovery Services network and local leaders. Besides Muncie, the staff will assist residents in Anderson, New Castle and Marion.

Options for Dual Diagnosis

A dual diagnosis occurs when a substance use disorder and a mental health condition such as depression or PTSD at the same time. Many people use drugs to self-medicate their mental health conditions, but this approach rarely works.

Integrated treatment matters because addressing only one side often leaves the other to drive relapse. Treating both at once gives people a more durable foundation for recovery.

Comprehensive programs typically combine levels of care and therapy types, including:

  • Residential or inpatient care for structured, round-the-clock support
  • Evidence-based therapies such as behavioral therapy
  • Medication management for both substance use and mental health conditions
