About The Turning Point At Washington Julies House

The Turning Point at Washington, located 25 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a unique offering in the addiction treatment space: a warm, woman-centered recovery community that truly feels like a second home. Tucked in a walkable downtown area full of small town charm and close knit community, this halfway house facility has helped thousands of women reclaim their lives over the past 30 years.

Recovery here happens in phases. After an initial two week orientation period, clients find a sponsor and become fully engaged in therapy and 12 step meetings. In the second and third phases, they gradually gain more personal free time, experience family visits, and part-time employment, ultimately transitioning toward independent living.

A Place for Women and Their Children to Heal Together

I think what sets The Turning Point apart from other substance use centers, especially in the case of Julie’s House, is their deep understanding of what women in recovery need. They provide halfway housing for moms and young kids together, along with separate living quarters for pregnant women. There’s also a 24 bed halfway house and 18 three-quarter housing units for those transitioning to more independence. Very few addiction facilities provide this level of support.

Enrichment That Goes Beyond the Basics

Recovery at The Turning Point goes beyond detox services and group therapy. I’m impressed by the variety of activities available here. Residents have access to life skills training, family support, and unique enrichment services that range from art therapy and mindfulness workshops to equine therapy and cooking classes.

Volunteers also lead sewing classes, and there are opportunities for cultural outings, like local theater and community concerts. These hobbies help spark joy, build confidence, and provide residents with a creative outlet and a sense of purpose along their healing journeys.

Compassionate Care With a Long History

Founded by Patricia J. Lutz, Med CAC CEDT SAP over three decades ago, this facility has since supported over 5,000 women. The team at The Turning Point continues her legacy, offering personalized care in a safe, structured setting. Services align with ASAM guidelines, and the center accepts Medicaid and other low-cost payment options, removing financial hurdles to make care accessible to all women.
