About POWER Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery

The Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery (POWER) provides trauma informed and gender responsive addiction treatment services for women. The treatment facility is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and they accept private health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid as well as self payment options. They offer residential and outpatient programs, as well as detox services with facilities in the Pittsburgh metro area.

Residential Treatment for Women

The POWER House is a 26 bed residential facility. The house is a halfway house and provides life skills training, individual therapy and group therapy. The program here connects women to health and wellness activities as well as recovery support programs.

The team develops individual plans that include strategies for long term recovery. When appropriate, medication management is part of the program. Clients include pregnant and postpartum women, those living with HIV/AIDS, and domestic abuse survivors ranging in age from 18-64.

The length of stay in the house varies depending on individual circumstances, but women can stay for as long as six months. Each woman has her own room.

Integrating Movement and Nature in Addiction Treatment

The program features recreation and meditation rooms, art and music therapy spaces, and a yoga studio. Because women’s addiction experiences are unique, the program focuses on a trauma informed and gender responsive treatment approach.

Their holistic model emphasizes the emotional, physical and social well being of each client for a better, more sustainable recovery. Treatment is integrated to simultaneously address mental health and addiction.

The POWER house is located near Frick Park. The park has a nature center and extensive trails for hiking, walking and biking, and it is a great resource to help women integrate nature and exercise into their healing.

Outpatient and Aftercare Services

Outpatient services are also available and include an intensive outpatient program (IOP), a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and regular outpatient services, including detox. Clients can engage in aftercare support services that include recovery coaching, mentoring and employment and housing assistance.
