Anxiety Treatment Study Posts 5.1 Point GAD Symptom Drop
Published September 17, 2026

A late-stage clinical trial delivered strong anxiety treatment results, with potential for those with anxiety and addictions. Definium Therapeutics announced that its Phase 3 Panorama study of DT120 ODT, an orally disintegrating formulation of LSD, met its primary endpoint in adults with generalized anxiety disorders with a placebo-adjusted symptom reduction of 5.1 points on a standard anxiety scale.
The Panorama Study
Researchers enrolled 245 participants at 32 centers. Adults ages 18 to 74 with a confirmed GAD diagnosis received a single dose of DT120 ODT 100 micrograms, a 50-microgram dose or placebo.
After the 12th week, the 100-microgram group showed a 9.8-point drop on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale compared with 4.7 points for placebo. The significance of the findings may be a game changer to help fill the gap in mental health services worldwide.
Definium reported no drug-related serious adverse events or suicidal intentions. The most common treatment-day effects were transient illusion, nausea and headache. Participants were monitored for 8+ hours on dosing day and 97% met discharge criteria after 1,000+ monitored sessions.
“Patients with generalized anxiety disorder often work through two or three medications before finding one they can tolerate,” noted Dr. Scott Aaronson. Anderson is chief science officer at the Institute for Advanced Diagnostics and Therapeutics at Sheppard Pratt.
This Matters for Mental Health Care
Anxiety affects 26 million U.S. adults and is associated with depression and trauma. Some folks use holistic care, including security blankets. As for medications, the last new drug approval for GAD came in 2007, leaving many patients cycling through existing options with limited relief.
DT120 ODT carries FDA Breakthrough Therapy designations for GAD and major depressive disorder and Definium has scheduled a pre-NDA meeting for late 2026. They also anticipate an application by early 2027.
Mental Health Intersects Addiction
The findings apply to anyone who has co-occurring conditions. Having multiple disorders is the rule rather than the exception. Anxiety and substance use disorders feed each other. Untreated GAD drives self-medication and vice versa.
Comprehensive behavioral treatment centers with personalized teams can evaluate both sides of that loop, rather than treating each in isolation. Coordinated care consistently produces better engagement and outcomes.
Understanding Anxiety Treatment Options
For someone researching care today, the evidence-based toolbox for GAD includes cognitive behavioral therapy, medication management through a psychiatrist and integrated mental health programs for any co-occurring depression or substance use. Novel medications like DT120 ODT would add to those options rather than replace them.
