Springfield, Missouri Approves $500K Mental Health Treatment Resource Map

Published October 2, 2026

The city of Springfield has allocated $500,000 to create a map of mental health treatment and substance use resources in the city. To be clear, the state of Missouri has plenty of options for folks dealing with additions, but local recovery advocates argue that this step is long overdue.

The funding came after 82 overdose deaths occurred in Springfield in 2024.

Mental Health Ties to Addictions

That’s where the map comes in. The map targets a gap between substance misuse and mental health disorders. Drugs and mental health conditions like depression, anxiety and PTSD frequently feed each other.

When services don’t operate in tandem, people slip down the cracks of the system. Someone treated for depression while their drinking goes unaddressed rarely stabilizes. Integrated care that treats multiple conditions usually has better results than a helter-skelter approach.

That’s what makes a unified resource map more than an administrative project.Hospital staffers, family members or anyone at all can find detox beds, counseling services and long-term programs in one place instead of calling 10 numbers and getting nowhere.

Behind the Push

Locals agreed that Springfield has plenty of resources. The only issue is to have a way to get to them.

Providers such as Crystal and Jeremy Box of the Road to Damascus sober living program have pressed officials to connect local organizations. Road to Damascus has graduated 208 residents since 2022. Those folks might not have made it if they didn’t know where to start.

One survivor is Kyler Dennis. He overdosed in 2023 before getting connected with Road to Damascus and now works as a minister with the program. Now, he sees people who are lost and don’t know where to go. Dennis hopes the funding produces a real solution.

Navigation Matters as Much as Treatment

The hardest step for many people is figuring out what help exists and if they qualify for it. Missouri residents navigating this system often face long waiting lists for Medicaid-funded programs and confusion about which facilities treat co-occurring disorders.

A well-built directory reduces that friction. It can show which behavioral treatment centers accept which insurance, the programs offer dual diagnosis treatment and where they can find open beds. Families researching options under pressure can cut days off the time between a decision to seek help and an actual intake.

Find Treatment in Missouri & Beyond

Depression treatment and anxiety treatment delivered alongside addiction care through approaches like behavioral therapy give people a far better shot at stable recovery than either treatment alone.

If you or someone you love needs mental health or addiction care anywhere in the country, a few concrete steps can speed things up.

Search mental health treatment facilities via our browsable directory which lists psychiatric care and substance use treatment. Ask any program directly whether they treat co-occurring disorders, and how they coordinate the two
