About Prevention Network

Prevention Network is a Central New York nonprofit in Syracuse focused on substance misuse prevention, education and family support across Onondaga County.

The organization serves youth, adults, parents, grandparents, guardians and caregivers through prevention education, family navigation and recovery-related resources.

Rather than a conventional rehab campus Prevention Network offers a community-based, public health approach that meets people wherever they are on the path from prevention to recovery.

Family Support Navigation and Recovery

Prevention Network’s Family Support Navigator services help individuals with addiction and their families better understand addiction, navigate insurance and treatment systems and connect with recovery supports.

Navigators also have experience serving veteran families and the Family Support Program is offered at no cost.

Navigation focuses on reducing barriers to treatment and recovery by guiding families through complex systems step by step.

Individuals can also access SMART Recovery through the organization, giving people practical tools to support lasting change.

Youth Prevention and Community Education

Youth prevention is a major focus anchored by the Teen Institute peer leadership program for high school students.

Through this initiative young people work to shape substance use attitudes among peers and build school and community action plans.

The organization also offers overdose prevention and Narcan training, parenting education and SBIRT and Motivational Interviewing trainings available in person or virtually.

Individual therapy is a common part of both inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment and may be used to help with skill-building, overcoming trauma, and creating a substance-free lifestyle.
Family Therapy
Many people have challenging family backgrounds, and addiction can create unhealthy dynamics as well. Family therapy in New York allows you to address these concerns. Some of the topics covered in family therapy include improving communication, developing healthy coping skills, avoiding codependency and enablement, and learning to support each other in healthy ways that foster recovery from addiction.
