About Buffalo Psychiatric Center

Buffalo Psychiatric Center is a New York State Office of Mental Health facility in Buffalo, serving adults age 18 and older living with serious mental illness.

The center offers a full continuum of inpatient and outpatient, residential and vocational, wellness and rehab services, including assertive community treatment and peer run support.

Guided by a recovery oriented, strengths based model, the center helps individuals build independence, reintegrate into their communities and move seamlessly between levels of care.

Recovery Focused Psychiatric Rehab

Psychiatric rehabilitation sits at the heart of the center’s approach, supporting adults with a primary psychiatric diagnosis through individualized service planning.

Inpatient care is delivered 24/7 in the Strozzi Building across 188 beds, while outpatient Recovery and Treatment Centers provide walk in and crisis appointments.

Services span counseling, case management and symptom management, medication management and crisis intervention, alongside specialty offerings like art therapy and music therapy, education and fitness programming.

Treatment emphasizes skill building, community integration and lasting recovery rather than short term care alone.

Residential Support and Community Living

The center’s residential programming includes community residences, transitional residential support, and a Family Care program in supervised private homes.

These options prioritize independence, wellness and steady progress, supported by a stated “non-decline” policy that helps individuals transition between services within the organization more easily.
