Kaweah Health Mental Health Hospital is an acute inpatient psychiatric hospital operated by the public nonprofit healthcare organization Kaweah Health.

The facility provides adult acute inpatient crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluation and medication stabilization for people whose mental health symptoms cannot be managed in non acute settings.

While it is not a dedicated addiction rehab, it may be relevant when a mental health crisis and substance use overlap.

Patients are medically cleared before admission and receive care within secure, locked treatment units. Three separate inpatient wings allow the team to match care to each patient’s level of functioning.

Care is available for adults age 18 and older with diagnosed mental disorders requiring acute psychiatric hospitalization.

The hospital’s mission emphasizes serving underserved populations, including people who are uninsured, immigrant farmworkers, individuals experiencing homelessness and those living with chronic mental illness.

A dedicated adolescent wing is anticipated in 2028.

Who provides the care?

A multidisciplinary team delivers care, including psychiatrists and nurses, physicians, recreational therapists and social workers, case managers and mental health workers.

The hospital is also connected to psychiatric medical education through a residency program and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.

Kaweah Health Mental Health Hospital sits at 1100 South Akers Street on Kaweah Health’s West Campus in Visalia, about a 10 minute drive from the main medical surgical campus.

It serves as a regional source of adult acute psychiatric care for the Central Valley.
