About Middlehouse

MiddleHouse is a non-profit sober living residence in San Luis Obispo, California. They offer adult men (18+) a safe, substance-free house focused on long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction.

Its core approach centers on community support, peer accountability and structure rather than medical intervention. Founded in 1966, MiddleHouse brings tradition-rich sober living with a grassroots mission to help men rebuild their lives.

Sober Living for Addiction Recovery

MiddleHouse specializes in sober living for alcohol addiction and other substance issues. They  welcome men who have maintained sobriety for at least 48 hours prior to admission.

Residents don’t receive in-house therapy or medical care. They live in a structured, supportive home of 14 individuals where peer relationships help drive accountability and growth.

Typical daily life involves upholding house rules, maintaining a schedule and engaging with outside support like AA or NA. The environment emphasizes mutual support, responsibility, financial self-sufficiency and consistent sobriety.

Peer Community & Accountability

Another central focus is peer-led recovery. Residents at MiddleHouse depend heavily on each other for motivation, structure and shared accountability.

This houses an intimate community where relationships develop naturally in shared spaces like common areas, semi-private bedrooms and outdoor settings.

The organization does not accept insurance; payment is self-pay. Rent, roughly set at about $175 per week, has deferral options available for up to two weeks for those seeking employment while settling in.
