About Central Valley Teen Challenge

Central Valley Teen Challenge is a faith-based residential addiction treatment center serving up to 140 men 18 and older near the Sierra Nevada foothills in Reedley, California. This program offers more than just substance abuse treatment. Their mission is rooted in spiritual renewal, community outreach, and long-term recovery. It’s been around since 2014.

These principles are grounded in discipline and rules designed to provide structure and stability necessary for long-term progress. Thanks to community donations, interested individuals do not need insurance or income to attend Teen Challenge.

Grace Leads the Way to Healing

Teen Challenge reflects a Christ-centered approach to substance use treatment. Since this program doesn’t accept government subsidies, it can stay true to its spiritual mission without compromise. Unlike many secular programs, they don’t shy away from mandatory spiritual disciplines like Bible study, prayer, and chapel. As I see it, someone who believes in the healing power of faith—or is open to exploring it—would find that this place feels like coming home.

Community Outreach Matters Here

Central Valley Teen Challenge doesn’t wait for people to find them. They go out into the community. I’m impressed by the time they spend in local schools, churches, and organizations to reach teens and preteens before addiction takes hold. They also offer support groups for family members and friends, an aspect of recovery often overlooked in many traditional rehabs.

Guided by Personal Experience

Director John Burns brings his own powerful story of recovery from addiction to his leadership role at Teen Challenge. He’s walked the walk, from the streets of New York to a master’s degree in counseling. While Burns has impressive credentials, he leads from the perspective of lived experience. For someone battling substance use, having someone who knows what you’re going through can be truly inspirational.
