About MPI Treatment Services

MPI Treatment Services, part of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Sutter Health, provides substance addiction care for adults in Oakland.

The 24-bed recovery hospital offers a full continuum of care for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions.

MPI combines 24/7 nursing care with integrated behavioral health support to help individuals and families build lasting recovery.

Hospital-Based Addiction Treatment

MPI’s primary strength is medically integrated addiction treatment, offering inpatient detox and withdrawal management within a licensed chemical dependency recovery hospital.

As a Sutter Health program, MPI provides around-the-clock nursing, psychiatric evaluations and medication management alongside structured rehabilitation.

Treatment blends methods like mindfulness, behavioral family therapy and recreational therapy to address both addiction and underlying issues like trauma, grief, and stress.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Care

MPI also specializes in dual diagnosis treatment for guests managing substance use alongside conditions such as PTSD, depression or anxiety.

Psychiatric consultation, medication management and coordinated care are woven into each level of treatment, helping patients address mental health and addiction together rather than in isolation.

MPI is located on the Summit campus in Oakland with onsite parking, EV charging, language assistance and convenient MacArthur BART access via Sutter shuttle.

Addiction Treatment Programs

  • Men's Rehab

Choosing a men’s rehab in California can be a great way to manage gender-specific issues while also addressing substance use. Whether you need detox, inpatient treatment, or outpatient care, a men’s program will offer specific support for your emotional, mental, and social needs.

  • Women's Rehab

If you’re a woman struggling with substance use, consider a women’s rehab program in California. Whether you need detox, inpatient treatment, or outpatient care, a women’s program will offer specific support for your emotional, mental, and social needs.

  • Drug Rehab

In California, a drug rehab provides a combination of therapy and education to help clients overcome substance misuse. In a drug treatment program you’ll not only receive treatment, but you’ll participate in activities, receive peer support, and learn how to have fun without substance use.

Insurance Coverage

  • Private insurance

Paying for rehab in California is easier if you use private insurance. Keep in mind that coverage levels may vary, and it’s important to try to find a center that’s in-network with your plan. Be sure to ask about your out-of-pocket costs, such as copayments and deductibles.

  • Military insurance

For those with military insurance, using your coverage to pay for treatment in California can make rehab more accessible. Your insurance plan can pay for some or all of the costs of rehab, although you will want to contact the insurer for full details. You may have some out-of-pocket costs such as copays or deductibles.

  • Self-pay options

Paying the full cost of rehab in California yourself is called self-pay. Some people write a check, some electronically send payment to the treatment center, and others get a medical loan. There may be different fee structures depending on the level of care.

Levels of Care

    Detox Treatment

The first step to a substance-free lifestyle is detox in California. Most detox programs last around one week, although some are longer. You will generally receive medical treatment for withdrawal symptoms as well as treatment planning for the next stage of rehab.

    Inpatient Rehab

There are multiple options for addiction treatment in California. During inpatient treatment, you live at the facility and are able to focus on creating a new way of life. During inpatient treatment, clients are able to work on their recovery through counseling, activities, and holistic treatment like mindfulness, art therapy, and more.

  • 3

    Outpatient Rehab

Attending outpatient treatment in California allows you to get evidence-based care without living in the facility, helping you establish long-term recovery. Building a new life for yourself takes time, and it’s important to have enough support throughout the process. Outpatient treatment allows you to have more intensive or less intensive help, depending on your needs.

  • 4

    Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) in California allow clients to live at home or in a sober living facility while attending an intensive treatment program. PHPs provide focused therapy up to 20 hours per week that allows you to understand the roots of substance use, learn healthy coping skills, and create a new life.
