About Walden House Female Offender Treatment Employment Program

The Walden House Female Offender Treatment and Employment Program (FOTEP) based in El Monte, California is a state-licensed recovery program for women leaving state and local jails. This program is for female parolees and offers a female specific treatment environment where the participant can work on her substance use issues, mental health, family issues and other issues that are of her concern.

Reunifying Families and Healing Generations

This is where FOTEP really shines, as it can accommodate mothers and their children during the treatment process. This model of family reunification enables the women to strengthen their parental bonds while at the same time work on their recovery.

Parenting skills and family therapy is available. These are other ways in which the participants are encouraged to come up with better relationships with their families, as the women feel that they have failed as parents due to their addiction.

Holistic Care for Lasting Recovery

Since FOTEP follows a trauma informed and gender responsive model, they understand the difficulties that are generally encountered by women. In particular those with dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use disorders.

The program combines evidence based therapies with vocational training and employment resources. It enables women to acquire the necessary skills for employment and overall well being. The focus is therefore on the emotional, physical and financial well being of the participant in order to be able to overcome obstacles and continue with their life changing process.

A New Beginning for Women in Recovery

The program also helps to alleviate the financial concerns since it offers Medicaid eligible services, making the treatment accessible to women of different social classes. FOTEP makes the women feel safe and comfortable as it deals with the issues of family, work and holistic wellness in order to help the women in recovery of their lives. Therefore, FOTEP is helping the women to rebuild their lives and also equipping them with the necessary skills for their future.
