Price Philanthropies recently awarded a lead grant to the University of California San Diego to establish their new behavioral health hub.

This $10 million grant will help fund both the construction of UC San Diego’s East Campus BHH and its operating budget for the first four year period.

This investment is meant to improve access to much needed mental health and addiction recovery services in an area where around a third of people who need such services live with their needs unmet.

It’ll also help expand the availability of inpatient psychiatric acute beds in the County. The area currently has less than half of what it needs to care for its residents.

The Behavioral Health Hub Project at a Glance

The project is meant to be more than a healthcare center; it is a strategic development meant to significantly improve access to mental health services across San Diego County.

The program will include 50 inpatient psychiatric beds between its two psychiatric units. It’ll also offer a full continuum of outpatient services

UC San Diego’s Chancellor expressed the university’s gratitude to Price Philanthropies for the investment, stating that, as the region’s leading medical system, UC San Diego Health is in the best position to help expand the community’s access to these vital services.

Accessible Behavioral Health Treatment in San Diego

The aim for the behavioral health hub is to provide for as many present and future needs as possible. They’ll care for people of all ages in their conveniently located facilities.

They’re close to the city’s trolley line to make it far easier to access with public transport.

The facility will further expand the university’s teaching hospital by including a training hub for a new generation of healthcare professionals.

This strategy is intended to help alleviate the County’s present shortage of behavioral health workers. It will also support research, and allow the university to offer mental health care, innovation, and equip new mental health professionals in one location.
