Young adults in the McKinney area have a new option for mental health treatment. BasePoint BreakThrough, a Texas behavioral health provider, has opened a McKinney location built specifically for people ages 18 to 35, with services that address both mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use.

BasePoint BreakPoint is just one of many treatment facilities scattered throughout the Longhorn State. It reflects a larger concern among many local officials for more mental health programs. Texans can walk into small clinics or enroll in modern inpatient programs. BasePoint BreakPoint’s latest program centers specifically on young adults, so that clinicians can zero in on stressors that particularly impact this age group.

BasePoint BreakThrough Offers

The McKinney site is the organization’s fourth BreakThrough location and expands its partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. It provides evidence-based care for conditions such as anxiety, depression, and ADHD, paired with practical skill building in areas like building confidence and regulating emotions.

The facility opened June 17 at 4601 Medical Center Dr. and is accepting referrals. BasePoint has reported it plans to grow to 10 locations by the end of 2028. Executive Director Hope Windsor relayed the program treats emerging adulthood as a distinct stage of life and is designed to meet young adults where they are.

Linking Mental Health to Addiction

Mental health and substance use often travel together, especially in young adulthood. Someone managing anxiety or depression may turn to alcohol or drugs to cope, while substance use can deepen those same symptoms.

However, self-medication rarely works and often spirals into addiction. Treating only one side can leave the other to undermine progress, which is why comprehensive, behavioral health care looks at the whole picture.

Dual Diagnosis for Young Adults

A dual diagnosis, also called co-occurring disorders, means a person has both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder at the same time. Integrated treatment addresses both together with a coordinated plan rather than sending a person to separate programs that do not communicate.

Emerging adulthood, roughly ages 18 to 35, brings pressures around identity, independence, school and college work, and work that differ from those of teens or older adults. Many recognize their mental health conditions, but often seek help through chatbots or other non-clinical approaches.

BasePoint BreakThrough’s programs for this group can tailor therapy, scheduling and peer connection to that stage of life, which can make young people more likely to stay engaged in care.

Comprehensive Treatment in McKinney and Beyond

Comprehensive providers usually offer several levels of care. Outpatient care allows up to several sessions a week while a person lives at home. Residential treatment provides 24-hour support for those who need it. Evidence-based therapies and medication management round out the plan.
