About MDC Substance Abuse Services

The Metropolitan Development Council makes substance abuse and co-occurring disorder care available to people in Tacoma, Washington. They accept voluntary and court ordered clients, and will help you find the program that’s right for you. They provide withdrawal management and outpatient treatment, but can refer you to inpatient care as well.

Since 1964, they’ve championed integrated care and social support in the Tacoma area. What you experience in their programs goes beyond treating drug or alcohol addiction: they’ll strive to elevate all areas of your wellbeing.

Medicaid is accepted for some services, as are other insurance plans. A sliding fee scale is also available.

Community Outreach

In the world of addiction treatment, community outreach refers to engaging with the greater community. It typically involves education and initiatives to help those in need, but it also has elements of social support. It’s important for raising awareness and helping people come to (and transition from) substance use disorder treatment.

It’s hard to overemphasize the importance of community in addiction rehabilitation. Recovery is bolstered when you’re in a safe, sober environment, and your social connections strengthen and broaden your support network. This layer of treatment may not be as direct as the counseling you receive, but it can be just as critical.

Helping Hand from Case Management

I also like that the program can pair you with a case manager who will help you with important daily responsibilities. They’ll assist with housing, medical, financial, and education concerns, as well as being your advocate.

A New View on Recovery

Part of recovery is finding new perspectives on your life. If you’re in the area for treatment, you can supplement your recovery with a visit to scenic Mount Rainier. Spending time outdoors is a great relapse prevention strategy, and spending time doing what you love is important to developing positive behaviors and maintaining sobriety.
