Arlington has 13 treatment centers in our directory, and they lean toward hospital-based and outpatient rather than residential. The densest concentration is a short stretch of North Cooper Street near the middle of the city, where several programs sit within a few blocks of one another, with more around downtown along West Main Street and West Arkansas Lane.
Residential beds are the gap. For those, you will be looking outside the city, to Mansfield a short drive south, or west into Fort Worth, which holds 41 centers and the fullest range of care in the county.
A search here returns addresses in Fort Worth, Bedford and Mansfield because Tarrant County shares one pool of programs and Arlington sits in the middle of it, with Interstate 30 along the north edge and Interstate 20 across the south.
One practical note before you plan anything: North Texas summers are hot enough to reorganize a daily schedule, so for an arrival between July and late August, pack for heat and expect the outdoor part of any program to happen early in the day.
Texas runs a free screening and referral service called OSAR, Outreach, Screening, Assessment and Referral. It is the state’s designated starting point for anyone unsure where to begin. Arlington falls in Region 3 with the rest of Tarrant County. Nothing obliges you to start there. No county sign-off is required in Texas, so calling a licensed program directly and asking for an assessment works just as well. Whichever route you take, what Arlington itself offers is outpatient and hospital-based care, and residential treatment means a drive.
Plan on driving, and plan on it harder here than almost anywhere. Arlington is the largest city in the United States with no fixed-route public transit, and the bus pilot that once linked it to the regional rail network ended in 2017. Instead, what exists is Arlington On-Demand, a city-run rideshare in six-passenger vans, still widely known by its former name, Via.
It covers the whole 99-square-mile city and reaches the CentrePort rail station and the Eastchase Parkway area of far east Fort Worth, where two Trinity Metro bus routes connect. It works, but it is a booking rather than a timetable, so if you are attending a program several days a week without a car, ask about session times that leave room for a wait.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport sits roughly 11 to 12 miles north of the Entertainment District, and State Highway 360 runs up the eastern edge of the city to reach it.
