St Thomas Hospital of Summa Health Systems in Akron, Ohio is now permanently closed. It offered a number of primary and urgent care services for Summit County. Although substance use treatment was not their primary focus, it was available for clients.

Behavioral health care was integrated and offered through several departments at the hospital. The departments of primary care, weight management, senior health, cancer, heart, neuroscience, women’s health, complex care, and health rehab were able to offer behavioral health services with other care the patient was receiving.

Detox and Inpatient Care in Akron

These departments commonly treated anxiety, depression, substance use, traumatic stress, and schizophrenia. Addiction medical specialists determined the level of treatment for substance users. Those requiring detox were admitted for inpatient treatment and education.

Clients requiring emergency detox could always come to the hospital emergency room for stabilization. Patients were admitted for treatment and set up with a treatment plan. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) was available to clients including prescriptions for Vivitrol, Sublocade, and Brixadi.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

Intensive outpatient programs treated clients three hours per day for three days per week. A specialized dual track provided care for those with co-occurring mental health disorders.
