Located in Pensacola, Florida, is the inpatient psychiatric program, Meridian at Lakeview Center. This is a facility that provides mental health services to children aged 7 to 17. Meridian offers a structured program that works really well for children who have a serious emotional disturbance or complex mental health needs. These services are also designed to help children who have experimented with substance use and may be facing mental health or emotional challenges because of it.

This facility has a close relationship with local law enforcement. Children who are at risk for substance use or are struggling with substance use are met with compassion and educational support. If your child is involved in the juvenile justice system, a referral can be made to this facility’s Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities team. This team works closely with the court system, your family and the greater community to help minimize your child’s delinquent behaviors.

Evidence based approaches to care are used alongside psychotherapeutic interventions. Through these interventions, your child will be encouraged to talk through their feelings, struggles and experiences. They’ll learn how to appropriately navigate complex emotions when they arise.

One aspect of this facility that I appreciate is that they offer foster care services. This includes programs for children who are aging out of inpatient care. Staff can connect them to housing, employment, education, medical care, mental healthcare and social services.
