Volunteers of America Freedom House is a women’s addiction recovery program in Louisville, Kentucky specializing in residential and outpatient treatment for pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders.

The program offers a three phase continuum of care aligned to ASAM levels 3.5, 3.1 and 2.1, integrating therapy with trauma informed and evidence based approaches.

Since 1993, Freedom House has been committed to helping women heal without being separated from their children and supporting sobriety, family reunification and healthy births.

Family Centered Recovery for Mothers

Freedom House’s core specialty is residential addiction recovery for pregnant and parenting women with a unique model that allows children under 18 to live onsite with their mothers during treatment.

The nationally recognized program combines clinical care with parenting classes, birth plan guidance and CPS qualified reunification support.

Treatment integrates cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma counseling, experiential therapy and 12 step approaches alongside medication support for opioid and alcohol use disorders.

Wraparound Support

Beyond residential treatment, Freedom House offers intensive outpatient services with boarding and alumni coordination, certified peer support and targeted case management.

Graduates can access VOA transitional housing for up to two years with life skills, vocational training and nutrition education supporting long term stability.

Admissions and Access

Freedom House serves women across Kentucky from its Louisville locations on Shelby Street and 2nd Street, with transportation available statewide and same day, evening or weekend admissions.

The program accepts Medicaid, state financed insurance and private insurance, Tricare and self pay with staff available to help uninsured women apply for Kentucky Medicaid.
