About LINC Leading into New Communities

Tucked in the coastal city of Wilmington, North Carolina, Leading Into New Communities (LINC) offers help for people navigating the tough path back from prison and substance abuse. Just minutes from the scenic trails of Greenfield Lake and downtown community resources, this center is more than just a rehab. It’s a starting point for personal transformation.

Reentry-Focused Recovery with Real-World Impact

What makes LINC unique is its deep-rooted commitment to helping individuals reenter society successfully, not just sober, but housed, employed and supported. They provide transitional housing and outpatient recovery services.

Their wraparound services include substance abuse counseling, case management, job training, GED prep and peer mentorship. For someone who has been in and out of prison, I imagine this level of support can potentially be life-changing. Past clients praise the non-judgmental environment and staff commitment to helping them reduce recidivism.

Serving a Unique Population, Affordably

LINC specializes in working with formerly incarcerated adults, both men and women. Many of their clients are also facing homelessness and legal pressure to get treatment. They offer income-based services and connect clients with community-funded programs, so cost doesn’t have to be a barrier to care. Some clients are court-mandated, while others are self-referred.

Built on Personal Experience and Community Need

LINC has deeply personal roots. The organization was founded in memory of Marvin E. Roberts, an Army helicopter mechanic who served in the Vietnam War and struggled with addiction and incarceration before his sudden passing at age 50.

Inspired by his older brothers’ challenges, Frankie Roberts turned his family’s pain into purpose. He started LINC in the back of his barbershop, tapping into local resources to help ex-offenders rebuild and integrate into society.

Together, all these methods support you in establishing long-term recovery.

  • Individual Therapy

In North Carolina, individual therapy allows you to work one-on-one with a professional to address your past experiences and substance use triggers. This support and accountability help you establish recovery. Substance use treatment includes detox, inpatient treatment, and outpatient care, and individual therapy may be a part of each of these stages. The goal is to help clients address the roots of addiction, develop motivation to change, and create new habits for a substance-free life.
