About Al-Anon & Al-Ateen Family Grps

Al Anon and Alateen Family Groups is a no cost peer support resource in the Salem, Oregon. They help relatives and friends who are affected by another person’s drinking. They’re serving Marion and Polk counties.

They’ll offer you in person, online and hybrid meetings. They can’t give you clinical treatment but they’ll give you support that can complement professional addiction care.

What kind of support do Al Anon and Alateen Family Groups offer?

They’ll provide you with mutual peer support based on Al Anon principles. This includes the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.

You can get newcomer informational meetings to help you understand the program and decide if it fits your needs. This is not therapy. It’s not led by a counselor but it can work along with professional treatment.

Who can attend meetings?

They help adults who are affected by a relative’s or friend’s drinking. This includes partners, parents and friends.

They’ll offer peer support for young people who are living with the effects of somebody else’s drinking. They also have  groups for newcomers, parents, men, women and Spanish speaking people.

Where are meetings held in the Salem area?

Salem area meetings take place at community spaces such like churches. The Alateen meeting is held Tuesdays at Salem Alliance Church’s Faith Annex.

They can give you handicap access, no smoking and fragrance free environments and Al Anon literature.

Is there a cost to participate?

No dues or fees are required. Their groups are self supporting but voluntary contributions can help cover meeting spaces and literature.

How do I get started?

You don’t need referrals, advance notice or documentation. You just choose an in person, online, or hybrid meeting that fits your situation. You might consider starting with a newcomer meeting.
