About Sheepgate

Sheepgate is a faith based nonprofit recovery ministry offering long term residential addiction treatment in Colfax, Iowa. The program provides a structured 12 month discipleship model for adults struggling with substance use and other life controlling issues, including anger and depression.

Sheepgate’s Christ centered approach combines biblical teaching, one on one mentoring and character development to address the root causes of addiction and help participants rebuild their lives.

Christ Centered Long Term Recovery in Iowa

Sheepgate’s men’s program begins with 7 months of intensive discipleship at a former mineral springs resort on a beautiful 80 acre property in Colfax, followed by a 5 month re-entry phase in Omaha, Nebraska. The women’s program operates from a home on an acreage in Beatrice, Nebraska. Staff members are not licensed therapists but include program graduates and mentors with lived experience who guide participants through biblically based classes, group sessions and daily structured living.

The program focuses on spiritual formation and character transformation rather than clinical counseling. Participants engage in worship, scripture study and mentoring relationships designed to foster lasting change. One graduate shared, “The real change came the day I walked in the front door. Coming in here and really meeting Jesus has changed my life, perspective and identity.”

Work Study and Re-Entry Preparation

Sheepgate integrates vocational responsibilities into daily life, including building maintenance, construction, lawn care and foodservice. The re-entry phase emphasizes employment, community involvement and church connection while residents live in structured housing, preparing them for independent living after graduation.

Program Details and Access

Sheepgate serves men 18 years and older and women 19 years and older across Iowa and Nebraska through separate residential programs. Detox must be completed prior to admission and the ministry provides referrals to detox centers as needed.
