About American Indian Council on Alcoholism

American Indian Council on Alcoholism, Inc. (AICA) is a Milwaukee-area center providing culturally grounded substance use counseling and prevention services for the Urban Indian community. It’s located in Greenfield, Wisconsin.

Through state-certified clinical substance abuse counselors, AICA offers counseling, assessment, education, referral services and recovery support for American Indian individuals and households across the greater Milwaukee area.

The organization takes a holistic approach to wellness, honoring the mental, physical, spiritual and emotional balance that supports lasting recovery.

Culturally Grounded Recovery Support

AICA’s core specialty is helping the Milwaukee Urban Indian community navigate substance use disorders through person-centered counseling rooted in Native identity, culture and community connection.

Services are delivered by clinical substance abuse counselors and helpers who provide assessment, individual counseling and referral support.

Recovery extends through Brotherhood Support Meetings for American Indian men and women, offering a space for shared healing alongside clinical care.

Sessions integrate cultural connection and spirituality with practical recovery tools addressing both the roots of substance use and the path toward whole-person wellness.

Prevention, Education, and Community Wellness

Beyond counseling, AICA delivers prevention and education programming on topics like mental health, grief, anxiety, goal setting and the aging brain.

The organization also offers cultural and recreational activities, a lending library with Indigenous literature and a free mobile app featuring guided meditation and motivational content for ongoing support.

All counseling and prevention services are provided at no cost making culturally rooted support accessible to those who need it.
