About Mayas Place
Maya’s Place is a women-only therapeutic community in Albuquerque, New Mexico operated by Crossroads for Women.
This transitional housing program supports adult women emerging from incarceration who are navigating co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns.
Maya’s Place blends structured, trauma-informed care with practical reentry support to help women rebuild stable, healthy lives in the community.
Reentry and Recovery in a Structured Community
Maya’s Place offers a highly structured 26-bed therapeutic community designed specifically for women transitioning from incarceration back into daily life.
As one of Crossroads for Women’s two therapeutic communities the program pairs safe, supportive housing with recovery-focused services and case management.
Referrals are made through the New Mexico Corrections Department. Care here centers on trauma-informed, women-centered support that addresses both substance use and mental health needs together.
Women participate in recovery groups, group therapy and case management that help them build coping skills, connect with resources and work toward lasting stability.
This dual diagnosis focus helps address underlying issues rather than symptoms alone.
Whole-Person Reintegration Support
Beyond housing and behavioral health Maya’s Place emphasizes practical reintegration. Through the broader Crossroads for Women organization women can access vocational services, family support and family therapy.
These offerings help women strengthen relationships and prepare for independent, sustainable living.

Therapies
Trauma Therapy
In New Mexico, trauma-informed therapy allows you to be honest about what has happened to you in the past and understand how substance use may be a response to that. From there, you can create better coping strategies. Both inpatient treatment and outpatient care can include trauma-informed therapy, which helps you create a feeling of safety, access peer support, embrace the validity of your feelings, and create healthy coping skills.
Family Therapy
Family therapy in New Mexico is generally led by a professional who facilitates family members sharing about their experiences and emotions. Family members learn how to play a positive role in supporting your recovery. There are several goals in family therapy. Some sessions may be focused on specific past events, while others address current broken relationships or how good intentions have gone astray. Over time, family relationships can be restored, making recovery easier.
Group Therapy
Group therapy in New Mexico is generally led by a professional who facilitates clients sharing about their experiences and emotions. Substance use treatment includes detox, inpatient treatment, and outpatient care, and group therapy may be a part of each of these stages. The goal is to help clients support each other, provide accountability, and relate to each other’s experiences.
