i am still writing on step 1, although i have thoroughly accepted my powerlessness and unmanagibility. more important to me now are steps 2 and 3, which i view as related. i have accepted that a higher power can restore me to sanity. i am still a bit uncertain as to exactly how i need to relate to my higher power, my highest power that i call God. i was wondering how the rest of you took this (step 3) step, and what it means to you. thanks! deb

In reply to your request.

I worked Steps 2 and 3 out of a Step guide at a rehab. By the time I was done sharing it with a counsellor it had become the most joyous experience of my life and remains so to this date. It was rejoining the heavenly family which I'd turned my back on at about eleven years of age and had so wanted back in my life ever since.

I worked steps 2 and 3 in the NA Step working Guide. Step 2 for me was actually a little more difficult than 3 because mostly i made it difficult, . It asked me to believe in a power greater than me, I didnt have a problem with that part of it, because God i already recognized as my Higher Power. I struggled with belieing He would restore me to sanity. But i found this time the more i focused on all my insane behaviors and thoughts in my addiction the more accepting i became of my insanity. I do believe today He can restore me to sanity. Step 3 is where i make a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God and then take some action by going on to step 4.

When i take the short version of Steps 1-3 that helps me alot during my day.

Step 1 - I Can't

Step 2 - He Can

Step3 - I will let Him

Thanks for letting me share.

[b][i]Steps 2 & 3 are extremely important steps however they will mean new things to you as you continue the program by incorporating these steps into your life. I like to keep things simple especially for the newcomer I came to believe by watching the other in my home-group they seem to have something going in there life's so if I do as they do I could believe that it could work for me too. Step 3 was a decision to go on with the program these steps are all about surrender and will continue to be as we grow in our programs. I hope this will help anyone who is new and having a hard time with the spiritual so called side of the program.

God Bless!
